Do Your Online Forms Deliver?

4 Ways to Make Your Website Forms Wildly More Effective

Stop Losing Leads with Simple Fixes That Get Messages Delivered, Build Trust, and Win New Business

We’ve seen a lot of website forms that are simply the plug-in’s default fields and acknowledgements. Form submitters aren’t sure the message goes thru. Submissions end up in your spam folder. The challenges can go on and on.

Here are some tips to take it up a notch.

1) Create a “thank you” page

When the user hits your submit button, take them to a dedicated landing page for the form. Thank them for the submission and invite them to other helpful areas on your website. This is a great place to share case studies.

2) Self-reported attribution: Ditch the drop-down

“How did you find us?” is a very helpful question to include on your form. Most websites give you a drop-down series of choices, but if you’re actively marketing, that list can get long. Leave an open text field for the prospect to share where and how they found you. (i.e. “Heard you on the recent podcast” or “A LinkedIn connection referred me.”

3) Use an SMTP form delivery tool

Your website was probably setup to use a default code snippet to send your email forms. This often causes your form notifications to get dumped into a Spam folder. By using an SMTP delivery tool, these notifications will get sent using an authenticated email service (Gmail, a third party, or even your own domain).

This helps your leads land in your inbox and confirmations get to your future customers.

4) Keep it short: you’ll be contacting them right away

It’s called speed to lead. Responding within five minutes is 100x more likely to result in a positive connection than waiting 30 minutes. This is called the Golden Window. The key to making this work is keeping communications short and authentic. Don’t use stock replies or spammy-sounding “we’ll get back to you” messages. Even more important: try to personally reach out to every form submission.
