Most tourism destinations are busy in the summer. Some are busy in the winter. Hayward and Sawyer County are busy during both!
Hayward Lakes Visitors & Convention Bureau’s (Hayward Lakes) website supported hundreds of paid members across many communities representing Sawyer County, Wisconsin and beyond. Their reputation focused on the natural wonders that surrounded Wisconsin’s northwoods. During the summer: fishing, camping, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, and almost everything you can imagine. But the winter months were even busier with the world’s largest cross-country ski race, hundreds of miles of trails for snowmobilers, and unbeatable ice fishing.
A handful of problems plagued this year-round outdoor paradise’s web presence: the site loaded slowly, the site map needed restructuring, and the site lacked an effective mobile experience.

Signalfire worked closely with Hayward Lakes staff to review and rebuild the extensive site map. Balancing the events, the members, and the inside scoop for itineraries, a new navigation structure was developed. Extensive planning and content gathering rounded up details on nearly 900 businesses and organizations.
Signalfire’s creative team designed a fresh look that combined the natural colors of the area and icon line-art that embraced the northwoods style. Easy to navigate and easy to manage the vast amounts of content, the site came together with a successful launch.
Signalfire’s support of the website included a detailed marketing data dashboard that combined data feeds from the website, social media channels, and even online form completions tracking visitor guide and map requests.
Signalfire also supports Hayward Lakes with photography, social media management, content creation, and even award winning contests.
Our organization has been partnering with Matthew and his team at Signalfire for the past two years. What started small with some newsletters and Facebook Live productions has grown into a new website and social media management.
