Signalfire Sponsors Volunteer For Honor Flight

Bryan Giese, Project Manager at Signalfire, will be a volunteer escort for a Korean War veteran on the September 17th Stars and Stripes Honor Flight to Washington DC. Volunteers who escort Stars and Stripes Honor Flight veterans, also called Guardians, go through a stringent process and are required to cover their own expenses—including air fare.

“I applied to be a Guardian three years ago,” says Signalfire’s Giese, “at the time, I doubted the chance would come.”

All of that changed over the summer when Giese received a voicemail from Stars and Stripes Honor Flight.

“I got the message soon after my Grandfather, a World War II veteran, passed away,” says Giese. “His deteriorating health prevented him from making the trip last spring.”

“Bryan shared his volunteer opportunity,” says Matthew Olson, Owner of Signalfire. “He was about to decline the offer due to the financial costs. There was no way we could let Bryan miss this chance to honor his grandfather.”

Signalfire is covering 100% of all travel expenses for Giese.

“When Matthew said Signalfire would sponsor the costs, I was speechless,” says Giese.

The mission of Stars and Stripes Honor Flight is to honor all veterans by flying WWII, Korean War and terminally ill veterans from other conflicts to Washington, DC to visit their memorials. This one-day trip is a whirlwind that includes an early departure from Milwaukee’s General Mitchell Airport to Washington DC, tours of monuments, and frequent visits from VIPs from Wisconsin and Washington alike.

“I’ve been assigned as Guardian for a Korean War veteran,” says Giese. “It’s going to be an incredible experience to share.”

“Both Bryan and I share a passion for history,” says Olson. “By contributing to Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, it gives our current generation one more chance to learn from the veterans who literally saved the world.”

More details about Stars and Stripes Honor Flight can be found on their website www.starsandstripeshonorflight.org. Signalfire will share pictures of Bryan’s experience on social media.
